Your desert adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in
Marrakech. Travel across the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka
Pass (2260 m), the highest road pass in Morocco, offering spectacular panoramic views of
Berber villages and mountain landscapes.
The first major stop is the historic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site and one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages. This ancient ksar has been used as
a filming location for many international movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
You will have time to explore the kasbah and enjoy lunch in the area.
In the afternoon, continue through Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa, before
traveling along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward the beautiful Dades Valley.
Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional riad or hotel.
After breakfast, drive through the stunning Dades Valley, known for its spectacular rock
formations and scenic mountain roads. Continue toward Tinghir and the impressive Todra
Gorge, where towering cliffs rise up to 300 meters, creating one of the most dramatic canyon
landscapes in Morocco. Enjoy a short walk through the gorge and lunch nearby.
In the afternoon, continue your journey through Erfoud and Rissani, famous for their
traditional markets and fossil workshops. By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, the gateway
to the Sahara Desert.
Here you will begin your unforgettable camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Ride your camel through the Sahara while enjoying a magical sunset over the dunes before
arriving at your desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber music around the
campfire, and a night under the star-filled desert sky.
Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara dunes, one of the most
memorable experiences in Morocco. After breakfast, return to Merzouga village by camel or 4x4.
Depending on your preference, you have two options:
- Option 1:
Travel back through the desert landscapes toward Ouarzazate, stopping along the way in
the Draa Valley, famous for its palm groves and ancient kasbahs. Overnight stay in Ouarzazate.
- Option 2:
Spend another relaxing day in the Merzouga Desert, where you can explore nomadic
villages, visit Khamlia village to experience Gnawa music, enjoy sandboarding, or simply
relax in the peaceful Sahara environment. Overnight again in Merzouga.
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Marrakech. Travel through the spectacular landscapes of southern Morocco, passing traditional Berber villages and scenic valleys. Cross the High Atlas Mountains again via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying breathtaking views along the way. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your unforgettable Sahara desert adventure.
